The
Bohemian:
Could someone please fetch me my respirator.
What
a night. After meeting up with a couple of friends for drinks, we decided
to try a new club instead of the one that we always hit on Friday night. One
friend brought up a club in Pioneer Square called the Bohemian, and said that
it was sort of a Hip-Hop hole in the wall.
It was more like a steamy, smoke filled Hip-Hop pit from which there was no
escape. Once we entered it was crucial that we have something to drink...
partly to cope with the dark sense of impending doom that fills the place,
but also to compete with the amount of sweat pouring from our pores. I hadn't
even danced yet and I felt like I needed a shower.
The layout is pretty cool though. There are two main rooms, each with bar
and a small dance floor. A stairway leads up to another floor, bar equipped,
that looks out over each of the dance floors. Pretty nice if you want to do
a little looking while you feel the beat.
The music was definately a Hip-Hop Regea kind of beat. A little slow for normal
club dancing, but just right for those couples who like a slow bounce. There
was a band playing on the small stage in one room, which brought a nice change
if one was able to navigate through the crowd between rooms.
It was pretty crowded, and there was a lot of fronting as guys squeezed by
each other, trying to look tough, with their catch of the night. It seemed
as though there were a lot of couples there (arrived together, that is), but
also plenty of the usual wanna-git-whicha.
Not a place I would go to regularly, but decent for an occasional change...
just make sure there's a shower where you stay that night.
